Episode 22

Acts 22 - Paul's Dangerous Defense

Acts 22 - Paul’s Dramatic Testimony

Paul shares his powerful testimony with the people of Jerusalem. Speaking in Hebrew, Paul recounts his past as a fierce persecutor of Christians and his incredible encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus. We explore the resistance Paul faced as he revealed his mission to the Gentiles and the legal protection he invoked as a Roman citizen. Through Paul’s story, we reflect on the courage it takes to share one’s faith, even in the face of hostility.

Paul’s Background: Paul begins by introducing himself to the crowd. He shares how he was born in Tarsus and educated under the famous Rabbi Gamaliel. His zeal for Jewish law led him to persecute early Christians, including Stephen.

Conversion Experience: On his way to Damascus, Paul had a life-changing encounter with Jesus. A bright light blinded him, and he heard Jesus’ voice asking, “Why are you persecuting me?” This marked the beginning of Paul’s transformation into a follower of Christ.

Rejection from the Crowd: Despite his heartfelt testimony, the crowd became enraged when Paul spoke of his mission to the Gentiles. Their anger revealed the deep-seated resistance to the inclusive message of Jesus.

Legal Defense as a Roman Citizen: When the Roman soldiers prepared to flog Paul, he revealed his Roman citizenship, protecting himself from unlawful punishment. This moment highlights Paul’s wisdom and boldness in the face of adversity.

Takeaways:
Paul’s story reminds us of the importance of standing firm in our faith, even when we face rejection. Sharing one’s testimony can plant seeds that may grow in the future. We must trust that God will use our words, even if we don’t see immediate results.

Jill McKinley

I’m Jill from the Northwoods. Professionally, I work in Health IT, where I untangle complex systems and help people use technology more effectively. But at heart, I’m a curious lifelong learner—always exploring how things work, why people grow the way they do, and how even the smallest steps can spark real transformation. That curiosity fuels everything I do, from problem-solving at work to sharing insights through my creative projects.

My journey wasn’t always easy. Growing up, I faced a rough childhood, and books became my lifeline. They introduced me to voices of ancient wisdom, modern psychology, and the natural world around me. Those pages taught me resilience, gave me perspective, and helped me see that wisdom is everywhere—waiting to be noticed, gathered, and shared.
